Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew got the news he wanted Monday.
Jones-Drew left the Jaguars‘ 36-26 victory over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday with an injury to his right wrist. On Monday, X-rays on the area were negative, Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union reported via Twitter.
Jones-Drew re-entered the game and finished with 84 yards on 19 carries.
“He comes out and it looks like the season’s over with his hand, the way he was screaming on the ground there,” Jaguars quarterback David Garrard said. “But he comes back in the game and was tough as all get out.”
Also on Monday, Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said second-year cornerback Derek Cox likely has re-earned the starting position he lost during the regular-season opener. He replaced David Jones after Jones allowed an early 45-yard touchdown to Bills wide receiver Lee Evans.
“We knew it was a shot time,” Del Rio said Sunday. “We all knew that was a shot time, and we just let that go over the top of it. That’s unacceptable.”
